This workshop explores questions of how community resilience works in practice within Rotterdam neighbourhoods and what the significance is of the social fabric and social infrastructure of the neighbourhood.
Together with a small group of students, you will have the chance to conduct research into the common theme while working out your own case. There are weekly meetings during which you will be guided by a lecturer from the Erasmus University. Professional researchers from the Veldacademie will help you to get in touch with key figures, carry out your research and perform data analysis. In general, you will use qualitative methods for your research. For instance, data collection is done by means of (participatory) observation, in-depth interviews and focus groups. But you can also use data already collected by the Veldacademie or build on research conducted by other students.
In the first 8 weeks, you will work on a research proposal that must be approved by your first and second supervisor at Erasmus University. Following which, you will carry out the research. Part of the thesis workshop is is that you present your research to stakeholders in the form of an expert meeting, a workshop and a poster.
